Gas Mains Renewal Program
Our Gas Mains Renewal Program is aimed at replacing old, high-maintenance gas mains to ensure a more reliable gas service and reduce the possibility of leaks.
The replacement will involve excavation, the installation of a new pipeline and the backfill and reinstatement of disturbed surfaces. Access to your property and gas meter will be required. All excavations will be reinstated to as near to the original condition as possible.
During construction, there may be some noise and disruption from temporary traffic and access restrictions, trucks and other vehicles associated with the work. The safety of the public and our crews is paramount. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the project under the guidance of traffic control staff.
We may need to temporarily turn off your gas supply. You will receive a notification card 1-2 days prior to disconnection. It is expected that your gas will be interrupted for approximately 8 hours during the day of works. If your pipework is safe, your gas supply will be restored. We may relight your appliances if accessible.
For safety reasons, if your internal pipework is found to be defective, it will need to be repaired or replaced by a registered plumber prior to your gas supply being reconnected. This work must be arranged by the property owner with all costs involved being met by the property owner. If your gas meter does not comply with the current standards, it may need to be relocated. We will make every attempt to contact you regarding the new location of your meter, however, this may not always be possible.

Who is performing the work
APA Group (who are the network operator for Australian Gas Networks) appoints various contractors to perform the works in your area. In some cases, contractor vehicles will be branded as an APA Contractor. Otherwise, contractors are identified by site signage located on all APA sites, as well as on the notifications provided to affected residents, business owners, and community organisations.

I have just returned home, and my gas has been left switched off after your works. What do I do?
If you return home and find that your gas has been switched off, please check your mailbox for one of our notification cards which will provide details about why this has happened.
If you find the ‘How to safely turn on your gas supply’ card, you can follow the instructions to safely turn on the gas supply to your premises and relight your appliances or view our video below. If you are unsure about the correct procedure please get in touch with the APA Group Representative contacts on 1800 643 183 between 7.00am and 9.00pm weekdays.

If you find the ‘Your gas supply has been turned off’ card, then a safety issue was identified when the contractor was testing your fitting line. We would have left you this notification card if we were unable to advise you in person. You will need to arrange a domestic plumber at your own cost to locate and isolate the leak, since the Australian Gas Industry Standards have a zero tolerance to leakage on a fitting line. listed on the back of the card.

Will my property be reinstated?
Once the work is complete, all surfaces will be temporarily reinstated and made safe, with permanent repairs to be completed within 30 days of the works finishing.
Together with APA Group, we are committed to ensuring areas disturbed during these upgrade works are left as we found them. All attempts will be made to match the original surface, but you might still be able to identify the newly repaired surface from the original. While it is not always possible to exactly match the colour and texture of concrete or pavers, we take all steps to ensure these are replaced as near as possible.
Our contractors make every effort to minimise the impact of our works on you and your neighbourhood.

I am registered as a Life Support Customer, how will this work affect me?
You will receive multiple notification letters outlining the work and the impact this may have on you. There will be specific contact details provided to you to enable you to make direct contact with the contractor responsible for the delivery of the work.
